This year, we will be teaching reading and comprehension from the Louisiana Guidebook. There will be four guidebooks completed throughout the year. Most of what your child does with this will be done in class. Guidebook unit novels and unit readers will be provided to your child  at school.  These books, however, must remain in the classroom and cannot be brought home.  The four Guidebooks we will teach are:

•The Stories Julian Tells
•Cajun Folktales
•Louisiana Purchase
•Treasure Island

Our vocabulary will come from the Wordly Wise 3000 program. This will give students a list of 10 words to complete activities and learn the definitions for a test every two weeks. Students will be required to read an additional book for the week and AR test on it.  Failure to do so will result in a loss of recess on Friday. Reading with your child and asking questions about what they are reading will help your child become a successful reader throughout the year.

Spelling /English:

Spelling words for the week will be handed out every  Monday on the weekly newsletter. Spelling homework will not be assigned. It will be your choice as to how you have your child prepare for the test on Thursday.

English is a combination of grammar and writing skills.  The primary focus in this subject is to enhance writing skills in preparation for the LEAP test. Weekly assessments will come from student writings and Mentor Sentences.
